At the beginning of the 21st century, Moody Methodist's great spire reaches toward heaven as a beacon to the Galveston community. We invite and welcome all people who seek to be part of a nurturing and active Christian ministry. Since the first Methodist Bible study in Galveston in 1837, the people who eventually became known as Moody Methodist Church, have provided spiritual and physical care for our city. From before the Civil War, through the Storm of 1900, through all the wars and conflicts and economic depressions of our nation, through Alicia, Katrina, and Ike, the people of Moody Methodist have provided sanctuary in the darkness.
After Ike, the word went out, “the church is still standing to serve.” The Lighthouse Charity Team provided 30,000 meals here. Truckloads of clothing and provisions were distributed. The church provided two school uniforms for every child in Galveston ISD. And through it all, church never ceased to worship and share the love of God.
From Spiritual Formation for children, youth, young adults, middle-aged adults, and senior adults to recreational ministries in our Christian Life Center, Moody Methodist Church seeks to offer the abundant life in Christ that God calls us to. Our ministries include great music ministries for all ages, Bible studies, prayer ministries, missions, as well as fellowship and personal spiritual growth. Our Moody Day School is one of the finest children's programs in Galveston and our Libbie's Place, a senior day care center, demonstrates the cutting edge ministries that Moody Methodist is committed to. Our Sunday morning worship services offer the Christian sustenance which we all need in our lives and include Hispanic worship services.
